Product Questions

  1. Wind shield replacement

Posted by Phillip on 20th Jul 2010

Q: Is it possible to purchase replacement windshields for this product.
A: Sorry, but we aren't supplied with replacement parts for these units.

  2. Light warning when a pre-set decibel limit is exceeded

Posted by Andrew on 8th Jul 2010

Q: Rather than continually have to look at the decibel reading to see if sound level has gone above, say 50db, is it possible to set the meter to warn me with a flashing light or a bleep when the pre-set db level is exceeded? Thank you.
    A: No.

  3. fire alarms

Posted by steve on 30th May 2010

Q; I install domestic fire alarms and need to do a db test for certificates is this meter ok or is there a better one for the job?
A; For the working enviroment you will need a sound meter that meets IEC 61672 standard such as the CEM DT-805.

  4. I see Maplin offer the C weighted, what is the difference?

Posted by James on 26th Mar 2010

A: The most common weighting in noise measurement is A-Weighting. The meter, like the human ear, effectively cuts off the lower and higher frequencies that the average person cannot hear.

C-Weighting is also available on many sound level meters, but is generally used for Peak measurements and low frequency measurement and generally not workplace noise measurements.

  5. keeping noise down to accomadate neighbours

Posted by Unknown on 24th Sep 2009

Q - My neighbours have complained about noise from my sons guitar, is this item suitable?

A - This meter will measure upto 100 db's which is the equivillent of a jack hammer at close range, if you are measuring the sound level from your neighbours house then I can't see it being more than 100 db's.

  6. Minimum reading

Posted by Unknown on 14th Sep 2009

    Q - Why start at 35dB only?
I wish to measure the background noise in a very quiet location.

A - For background noise starting at 35db is more than enough, anything less than 35 is really quiet and difficult for the human ear to hear.

  7. Calibration

Posted by Ben on 8th Aug 2009

Q - Is this meter fully calibrated?

A - The meter is calibrated by the manufacturer but a certificate is not supplied.
